The innovative chlorine-free Natura corks are washed through a natural process that reduces the number of microorganisms present on the corkwood. Washing the corks in purified water containing a moderate amount of potassium metabisulphite, rather than the traditional chlorine process, eliminates a major source of free chlorine which cork mold can convert into trichloroanisoles. Natura corks are carefully dried to bring the moisture level below 8% to discourage microbial growth.
Natura corks are a technically approved bottle closure. Comparisons of microbiological test results show virtually no difference between traditional and Natura corks after processing. Laboratory testing has proven Natura corks to be a hygienic closure.
Natura corks have several significant advantages such as:
No chlorine or oxalic acid residues are present which significantly reduces the potential for undesirable chlorine by-products (such as trichloroanisoles).
Our Natura washing process produces corks that are relatively cork dust free.
They have a natural appearance with no obscured flaws or defects.
Natura corks are proven to be a successful alternative in improving sensory characteristics of cork.
